Fly Fishing Shop

Mark, the owner of the Welches Fly Fishing Shop, has been in the business for years and taught Brad to cast out behind the shop (he has suggested that Brad continue to practice, since chances of catching fish with the fly in the trees is not very good). Mark guides himself and is totally connected to where the fish are, whether its Winter Steelhead in the Sandy or trout on the Deschutes, which is just an hour a way.

Hiking

There are some spectacular hiking trails in the Mt. Hood area, many of which are less than 15 minutes away from your Bungalow. Don’t forget a Forest Service Pass.  There are free days you will not need a Forest Service pass click here for a list.

  •  Ramona Falls, great in the summer when the temperature near the falls is ten degrees less than the rest of the trail. A great loop. It is a 6 mile hike with a 1000 foot elevation gain going to the falls
  •  Salmon River Trail. While not a loop, for most people, it offers some spectacular views of the Salmon River. Great on a spring or summer day.
  •  Wildwood Recreation Site offers a little something for everyone you do need to pay to get in because it is on BLM land

For a complete list of hiking trails, check them out at www.mthood.info/hikingtrails/. You will find maps for many of the trails in your Mt. Hood Lifestyle Bungalow!

Mountain Biking

There is an amazing new trail network for Mountain Biking just down the road, less than a mile from Mt Hood Bungalows. This is a world class mountain biking park almost right outside your front door. Maps and detailed descriptions are available viewed here. Here’s a local review that you can read.

If you are really up for speed, you can check out the Mountain Bike Park at Mt. Hood Skibowl. Take the lifts up and go for speed on the way down! This is also the best place on the mountain to rent mountain bikes.

Mt. Hood Skibowl Adventure Park

The Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl is among the top things to do in Portland, offering something for everyone! We’ve got great activities for the whole family, the Adrenaline junkies, the naturalists and even the young ones! Our friendly and experienced staff will make sure your visit to the Mt. Hood Adventure park is memorable and fun, guiding you through 20 attractions where you’re in control! Come try out the go karts at Malibu Raceway, go bungee jumping and more at Mt Hood Skibowl’s Summer Adventure Park

Mt. Hood Adventure (summer adventure)- provides guided kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, whitewater rafting, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing and Fishing Tours and Rentals

Shopping

There are several grocery stores near your bungalow. The best is probably the Thriftway in Welches. However, check out the Brightwood Store, it’s close and we have found that they have what we need. Shopping as a recreational activity is not a big part of the Mt. Hood Lifestyle. If you are really looking for that, hop in the car and go to Portland.

Golf

There are 27 holes of fun mountain resort golf available at the Resort at the Mountain.
